Check License Inventory and Utilization

View available licenses, monitor seat utilization, and identify which jobs hold license checkouts.

Check License Inventory and Utilization

Use the license inventory to see which licenses are available across your configured license servers, how many seats are in use, and which jobs have checked them out.

Prerequisites

  • At least one license server (FlexLM, DSLS, LM-X, LS-DYNA, OLicense, or RLM) is configured in Vantage
  • You have permission to view the License Manager section

View available licenses

  1. In the left navigation, select License Manager.
  2. Select the Inventory tab.
  3. Review the features table. Each row represents a license feature reported by your configured servers.

The inventory table displays the following columns:

ColumnDescription
FeatureThe name of the license feature (for example, STARCCM or NXCAE)
In UseThe number of licenses actively being used by jobs running on a cluster
BookedThe number of licenses booked in Vantage by users who have submitted jobs to clusters
ReservedLicenses reserved for usage outside of Vantage license tracking, such as desktop applications
TotalThe total number of licenses available for this feature

Use the search bar at the top of the table to filter by feature name.

Check license utilization

  1. Navigate to License Manager > Inventory.
  2. Compare the In Use and Booked columns against the Total column for a given feature.
  3. Calculate available capacity: subtract In Use, Booked, and Reserved from Total.

A feature where In Use plus Booked equals Total has no remaining capacity for new jobs.

Identify which jobs hold licenses

  1. Navigate to License Manager > Configurations.
  2. Select the license configuration that contains the feature you want to inspect.
  3. Review the features list for that configuration to see the per-configuration breakdown of In Use, Booked, Reserved, and Total counts.

Each configuration is linked to a specific cluster, so this view shows which cluster's jobs hold checkouts for a given feature.

Troubleshoot license exhaustion

When all seats for a feature are in use, new jobs that require that license will wait in the queue until a seat becomes available.

  1. Navigate to License Manager > Inventory.
  2. Identify the exhausted feature (where In Use plus Booked equals Total).
  3. Navigate to License Manager > Configurations and select the relevant configuration to see which cluster is consuming licenses.
  4. Check whether any Reserved licenses can be reduced to free seats for cluster workloads.
  5. If the license server supports idle reclamation or timeouts, verify those settings are active on the server. See the troubleshooting guide for your license server type.
  6. If demand consistently exceeds capacity, contact your license vendor to add seats.
